Liriope And Ornamental Grass Basic Information

By George Collins

There are people that want the gardens they have to look beautiful if visitors come or when they decide on selling their house. They would place plants which were grown specifically as decorative with their aesthetic features being used like stem, overall foliage texture, leaves, flowers, barks, fruit, and scent. Those having unusual features can add interest to observers.

Taking care of them properly is essential to maintain their beauty but some are only at their best appearance at certain seasons. This is why Liriope and ornamental grass are popular alternative as they can last longer than other kinds. They could grow in different soil conditions and usually have no problems with insects and disease.

Most varieties tolerate drought which are severe and movement illusion is created by large ones with just the slightest breeze. Gardeners for home discovered that combining flowers and shrubs with them would provide interesting textures and colors. Their divers colors have a fair ranged and are used for successfully setting off large or small lawn areas.

When choosing what to plant, consider these following things with first being their hardiness rating and match it to your zone. These zones are geographically defined areas which specific categories of plants can grow depending on their climate and temperature. Using this will help gardeners, owners and landscapers in determining what could survive their area.

Deciding where their placement is depends if they will receive full sunlight because most of them have better performance in this. Other varieties though that loves sun could still perform well in partial shade but their growth is hindered. This information being known would help determine the location best for that variety in accordance with design plans.

Taking good care of them is similar to other plants in the beginning so make sure they begin well in your garden. When transplanting, ensure the soil is not dried through filling water in your planting hole before they are set. You should add some compost then fill in around the grass then water them once again.

Most of them require ordinary soil only that is well drained and moderately fertile but others will not so do some experiments in this. They must have good drainage even for those preferring materials which absorbs moisture well. Some needs regular watering and others may die when watered too much so be informed with this to avoid drowning or drying them up.

Determine the function your grass will serve such as covering exposed soil, garden bed edging, adding texture and enhancing privacy. They can become barriers for you against prying eyes and the recommended varieties are those taller and thicker. Lower growing ones are the better choice for lining driveways so your view would not be blocked.

Lastly, decide whether a clumping grass or running one is what you need with the former not spreading out from their location as non invasive. On the other hand, the latter will spread themselves when you would have no control over them. Choose one between having a neat mound formed or your ground covered.
