Benefits Of Using Variable Rate Spreaders

By Paul Wright

In the past, people used human labour to get a lot of the work done including farm work. People would plough, weed and pour fertilizer all on their own. Nowadays, we have the machinery to do most of the work for us. Some of these kinds of machinery are variable rate spreaders. Their main function is to pour fertilizer and even pesticides where needed.

As human beings, we get tired very fast and sometimes, we are just not in the mood to work. As a result of this, we can lose a lot of time. Time which we could have spent doing more important things. That is where we differ from machinery. The advantage of using machines to spread fertilizer is that not only do they cover a lot of ground, but they also take less time.

A farmer should be able to estimate the amount of fertilizer that will be enough for their piece of land. With that, they come up with a budget and buy a little over their estimate. There, however, is nothing worse than overbuying something only for it to be insufficient. The fertilizer will always be enough because the machine applies equal amounts to every crop.

They are also a way of saving money. This is because you will not be needing as much human resource as you did before. This does not mean the machine is self-operated, you will still have to pat the person operating it. It also does not mean that you no longer spend any cash because you will need to have the machinery maintained once in a while.

There are better chances of producing higher yields. This is mostly because the machinery put on every crop an amount that is just enough. This means that the chances of the crop going bad due to human interference are slim to none. When all the crops grow and yield as expected, the profits are bound to be off the charts.

The environment around the crops will be safe. When the spraying is manually done, some crops get too much fertilizer while some just do not get enough. This causes a lot of them to be destroyed and thus you might experience very low yields. With the over-sprayed crops, the soil around may be affected and planting crops becomes a lot harder.

Spreaders are multipurpose. Something that can have more than one use is usually more valued. When there are heavy snows, maybe even on tarmacked roads, you may use the spreader to sprinkle salt on the snow. This is a lot easier and more time saving than manual labor. There is also the idea of spraying pesticides on young crops.

A machine automatically does what it is programmed to. This means that as long as there are instructions, it would never stray away. Therefore, no supervision is required. This is the contrary with people as they need constant supervision just to be safe.
