A Guide To Selecting Florida Fake Grass

By Stephen Thompson

A lush green lawn is attractive and the perfect setting for spending time outdoors or playing. However, maintaining natural lawns in pristine condition requires regular mowing, weeding, and irrigation. This can take a significant amount of time and effort, especially if the quality of the soil is poor. This is the reason why many property owners in Florida are opting for artificial grass, also known as synthetic turf. It is a low maintenance alternative for commercial and residential properties.

Property owners need to select the most appropriate synthetic turf for their property. The best turf can be maintained with ease. Such turf will also remain attractive for several years. Property owners should consider various things when choosing Florida fake grass.

One of the things to consider is where and how they intend to use the synthetic turf. Artificial turf can be installed in playing surfaces on bowling greens, tennis courts, and cricket pitches or small lawns. Individuals who intend to install the turf in places that experience intense foot traffic should go for durable artificial turf. Those who intend to install it on a lawn should select artificial turf that is softer and more realistic-looking.

You should also contemplate on the size of the area where you will be installing the artificial turf. The size of the area will determine the amount of synthetic turf you need to buy and the number of hours it will take to install it. This, in turn, will influence the amount you will spend to cover the area. If you have a limited budget but need to cover a large area, you can opt for more cost-effective products that can create an attractive finish.

Property owners should also consider the quality of the synthetic turf. High-quality turf has a consistent color, well-stitched tufts, is backed evenly and is soft to touch. Such turf is also more expensive than other kinds of turf. Nevertheless, property owners should note that they are making a long-term investment and therefore go for the best turf.

The other thing to consider is how tall the turf is. If you want the lawn to look lush, you may be thinking of selecting synthetic turf with a higher pile height. However, the longer the grass blades are, the heavier they will be. Heavier blades bend faster due to the gravitational pull, making the lawn look flat as time goes. Therefore, to keep your lawn looking natural, choose the turf that has a pile height of thirty to thirty-seven millimeters.

Another factor to consider is backing and infill. Fake grass is designed to be infilled so that it can continue appearing lush and feeling springy. The popular infill materials are sand and rubber crumb. You can choose either based on your preferences and budget. Artificial turf has a backing which is either latex or polyurethane. Polyurethane does not expand or contract while latex can expand or shrink by 5 to 10 millimeters.

Synthetic turf is available in various shades of green such as olive green, dark green, and lime green among others. The less expensive synthetic turf is available in single flat shades of green and one can easily distinguish it from natural grass. Property owners should not purchase perfectly green turfs. The turf that has some brown flecks and different shades of green appears more like real grass.
