What To Know About MNDOT Mixes

By Helen Cole

To feed the population farm produce either vegetation or livestock produce is the main source of food. Vegetation however is the main source of food either manufactured or natural. The source of plant foods relies on seeds thus it is necessary to keep the seeds in high quality, there are some steps to take. Here are some of the tips to guide you on keeping high quality MNDOT mixes.

Seeds naturally have a moisture content that ensures that the seed remains healthy and alive but does not grow. If the moisture content is increased beyond this required level, the seed is triggered to grow. The growth of the seeds tends to damage its quality as it makes it invaluable for growing. The moisture content of the seeds thus needs to be maintained.

Humidity is also important. It closely relates to moisture. The humidity tends to alter the moisture content of the seeds. High humidity increases the moisture content conditions of the seeds and will also damage the quality of the seeds. To check on the humidity one can use the necessary humidity testing instrument or even weight the seed. The moisture content tends to alter the seed weight.

Another main issue when dealing with seeds is pests. Pests are common destroyers to the quality of plant products or the whole tree. They are of a variety of types and species. When storing seeds either for planting in the next season or to transport it and grow in another area, it is important to ensure that they do not have pests. Any pests in just one seed may reproduce and attack all seeds.

For many the sun drying means of dealing with pests does not work as efficiently. They should thus also opt to use the alternative method of pesticides which has been noted to yield results. The pesticides not only kill the pests themselves, they also kill the eggs thus preventing them from hatching and feeding on the seeds again.

Temperature is also another factor that is highly considered when dealing with seeds storage and transportation. Seeds require a specific temperature to maintain their condition. At times the exact temperature depends on the type of seed. However, note that extreme cold temperatures freezes the seeds while high temperatures denatures the proteins both affecting the seed quality.

Seeds are also affected by diseases. With this in mind it is important to ensure that before storing the seeds or transporting them, one should first check them for any disease. Storing diseased seeds will result in spreading of the disease to the other seeds or reduce the quality of the seeds stored.

Although the seeds may seem tiny, they are the source of all food in the world as they grow into plants which offer the basics required to produce food and to sustain all living organisms. The state and quality of the seeds is thus an important factor to help in providing a constant supply of food worldwide. The article provides an insight on how to mix these seeds.
